Ramesh Venugopal (left), founder of The Icon (printing), and Ramon Valdez, founder of Fine Art Solutions (custom framing) yesterday visited me while I was signing my photographs for the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History exhibition on backyard bird photography in the Fine Art Solutions West satellite location at The Icon in Los Angeles.
A photographer has to visit the camera store from time to time. Gintaras Korsakas was kind enough to take this picture of me with the cover of my book Backyard Bird Photography on my computer screen the other day.”Gintas” is a professional photographer who works at Bel Air Camera, and he sold me the gear I used for my book. He also gives me great tips on photography as well.
This is what they look like after I sign them. It’s an edition of 15, with each piece number one. The Allen’s Hummingbird chicks just after hatching, and then with their mother keeping them warm in the nest.
For the Roger Tory Peterson Institute exhibition on Backyard Bird Photography to run from January 13 through March 8, 2015. This is the only square image in the show, an Allen’s Hummingbird. Thanks, as always, to my printer Luis Diaz of The Icon for taking the photo. The series of 30 images are all numbered 1 of 15.
The nice folks at this publication have asked me to write an article for them based on my book Backyard Bird Photography, featuring two photographs, one of an Allen’s Hummingbird at an oriole feeder and one of the “blind” inside my house, from which I photograph the birds. Thanks to Lauren Burnstein, my publicist at Skyhorse Publishing, for setting this up for me, and to Ray David, publisher of Birding Business Magazine, for supporting my efforts. It will be in their summer issue. You can subscribe to this magazine at their website.
