John Burroughs Gallery
John Burroughs is the most famous nature essayist the United States has produced, and in my opinion, he is quite possibly our greatest writer. I have published my own essays in the newsletter of the John Burroughs Association, Wake-Robin, and I have visited two of Burroughs’ residences, which are now historic sites: Woodchuck Lodge, in Roxbury, New York, during which he spent summers from 1910 to 1921; and Slabsides, his cabin in West Park, New York, which he built in 1895, just up the hill from his Riverby estate. I am inspired by Burroughs every day, and I hope to follow in his footsteps as best as I can through my nature photography and my writings.
