The article on hummingbird gardening and butterfly gardening featuring my quotes and books THE ART OF HUMMINGBIRD GARDENING and THE ART OF BUTTERFLY GARDENING will appear in Woman’s World magazine on 5/12 with a cover date of 5/23. Kristina Mastrocola is doing the article, and I’m looking forward to reading it.
I mention this book by Martin Luther King, Jr. in my novel about two young kids in 1967 who meet the great man. I think this would be a good author photo for my book, and a nice tribute to MLK.
Yet another endangered bird is under attack because the habitat it needs to survive is prized by developers and other interests. This time, the Southwestern Willow Flycatcher has been targeted for removal from the Endangered Species List not because it’s recovering, but because it stands in the way of development.
My photograph of the Southwestern Willow Flycatcher:
ENDANGERED SPECIES: FLORA AND FAUNA IN PERIL—Mr. Tekulsky’s photograph of a Willow Flycatcher is featured in this national museum tour that includes the Wildling Art Museum (June 22-September 14, 2008) and the U.S. Department of the Interior Museum (November 1, 2008-February 28, 2009).
Movie star and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been supportive of my bird photography over the years, and recently, he graciously posed with me and my book BACKYARD BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY. Thank you, Mr. Governor.
Thanks to Delphine Moreaux for these photographs of the Festival de l’Oiseau et de la Nature, in Le Crotoy, France, with my Ruby-throated Hummingbird photograph the third from the left in the first photograph. (The image is from my book BACKYARD BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY.) I really wish I could have gone there. I have great memories of my times in France, speaking French to the people and getting around easily. The Festival is open until April 17, so there is still time to get over there.
