I met Jackie Robinson when I was ten years old, at a summer-camp baseball tournament in Hanover, NH. He was a great presence and I’ll never forget it. James Lee Stern took this portrait of me with JR.

Me and my friend photographer David Kennerly the other day. Dave goes from photographing presidential candidates one day to photographing little old me the next. Weird.
Are you a Stones man or a Beatles man?
Photographer James Lee Stern took this portrait of me with the Stooonnnnnneeeeesssss. I was a Stones man in high school more than a Beatles man. I bought “Beggar’s Banquet” in 1968 when I was 14, rather than “The White Album.” I just thought the Stones were more pure and basic and although I was a Beatles fan like anyone else, when it came to spending my hard-earned money from shoveling snow, I picked the Stones. 
Test prints and frames at The Icon
Preparing for a show is always interesting. Here, at the printer The Icon in Los Angeles, along with Luis Diaz, who took these photos, we sized and test framed a couple of the hummingbird images for the Santa Monica Mountains Visitor Center next July. Yes, well in advance, but it pays to do things when you can. You never know when you might need the images, so I like to get it all together as soon as I can after getting the go-ahead for a show. Thanks to the Roger Tory Peterson Institute for giving my this show of 30 images earlier this year. These images are smaller than the RTPI show, as they are designed for point-of-purchase sales to visitors to the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Great to be involved in nature and conservation, what I’ve always strived to do in my life.

Sophia is the Store & Events Manager, and I like to think she is acting as my curator for the exhibition at the visitor center in July 2016. She is great with suggestions and planning.
