Mathew Tekulsky's novel is a timeless story of two kids who defy the odds, unite a town, and make a brave stand against discrimination.

NY State Parks asks to use two of my John Burroughs State Historic Site photographs

Emily DeBolt, Communications and Public Relations, Saratoga-Capital District of the New York Site Parks, asked me for permission to use these two photos of the John Burroughs State Historic Site (Memorial Field) for their 2018 season wrap up report for the Capital District region for NYS Parks. I was glad to make the photos available for them. I love NY State Parks. My novel BERNIE AND THE HERMIT takes place in the Adirondack Park and I wrote a thesis about the ADK park for my senior year in high school. I’m awaiting offers for BERNIE as my follow-up to THE MARTIN LUTHER KING MITZVAH. I feel it’s getting close!

Essay on John Burroughs accepted by the North American Review

Thanks to the North American Review and editor Jeremy Schraffenberger for accepting my essay (along with photographs) “Woodchuck Lodge and Slabsides on the Same Day” for their blog, to be appearing soon. These two John Burroughs residences are open to the public and are well worth the visits. Jeremy edited MANIFOLD NATURE, a collection of Burroughs essays.

John Burroughs plaque on the ground at the Bird Fest 2014

Amazingly, my table with my book BACKYARD BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY is just behind this plaque with a great quote by the legendary nature writer John Burroughs. I work with the John Burroughs Association in New York and try to support the legacy of this fantastic essayist and bird expert. JOHN BURROUGHS AND YOSEMITE ESSAY PUBLISHED

Here’s a link to my essay “John Burroughs and Yosemite” at the North American Review blog, just published. Thanks to Jeremy Schraffenberger, editor of this, the oldest literary magazine in the United States, for giving me the great honor of melding the subject of John Burroughs (who wrote many essays for the North American Review) with my own writings. Jeremy edited a new book MANIFOLD NATURE, which is a collection of the Burroughs essays for the North American Review. Jeremy provides an introduction to the book, as well as contextual summaries of each essay.
