I took this shot of a camper as I turned to my right while photographing Yosemite Falls on 5/29/09.The Yosemite Sierra Visitors Bureau is a great organization dedicated to promoting recreation in Madera County, California, and Yosemite National Park. I’m proud to be associated with this group, which publishes the Visitors Guide each year.
#1 is salt heliotrope, I think. #2 Echinacea “Flame Thrower?” #4 and #7 is Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea). The yellow and white flowers in #6? #8 is Purpletop vervain. Is #9 a sunflower of some kind? #10 is a rose bush. I need to identify #3 and #5 please.

First, at the trailhead. Along the trail. Then: Sometimes breaking the rules works. Even though I’m looking out of frame, the power of the desert landscape balances this out and creates a sense of drama in the photo.
